The King's Arms Hotel has been trading for well over 200 years, and began its life as a coaching inn and posting department. In those days, it mostly offered accommodation for tourists and commercial gentlemen.

Open and closed horse carriages, omnibuses, wagonettes, dog carts and gigs once filled the car park, which nowadays is home to cars and touring motorbikes.

The King's retains unique, antique features from these early days, including original leather posting bags and beautiful brass post horns. The horns were once sounded by mail guards, who travelled the country in horse-drawn carriages delivering and collecting post. The powerful noise of the horn would announce their arrival, or tell people to make way for them on country roads. Sadly, despite various attempts from the owners' children over the years, the horns no longer sound.

The hotel even had its own mourning department in those days, with elegant hearses and mourning coaches. Don't worry, we're not haunted. The only spirits are behind the bar, and they're all good ones ;)

Over the centuries, the coaching inn became a thriving hotel business and expanded its clientele to people from all walks of life. It had several proprietors before its current owners, David and Pauline Fulton, bought the historic building in 1994.
